A Piece of Wintergreen’s Past: The Copper Mines- Aug 20, 2025
Join Josh Palumbo on a climb into Wintergreen’s past with a trip to the copper mines. This unique spot on the very steep east slope of Crawford’s Knob was an active mine in the late 1890’s before being quickly abandoned. Not only are the mines unique but its location is also fascinating, located in a lovely depression along a creek bed acting as home to a variety of wildlife including deer, turkey and, of course, bats. This is a trip every Wintergreen resident must put on their “bucket list”. Difficult. Bring a flashlight, lunch and plenty of water. Payment is due at the time of registration.
