Peggy Gearhardt

It took only one visit to Wintergreen to fall in love with its beauty and want to call it home. In 2021, my husband and I moved to the mountain and have been immersing ourselves in this special community ever since. As an educator and life-long learner, I want to further my own knowledge and appreciation of Wintergreen’s unique ecosystem – particularly all of the flora and fauna that surrounds me – as well as volunteer for programs that help our younger generation do the same. Prior to moving to Wintergreen, I taught in Loudoun County for 20 years and served in leadership roles at both the county and state levels including Treasurer and Secretary for the Virginia Association of Teachers of English for nearly 10 years. I earned a B.A. in Public Relations from Purdue University, an M.Ed. in Education from Marymount University, and a Reading Specialist certification from Shenandoah University.

Mark Sherry

My wife, Heather, and I are “mountain people.”  We discussed purchasing a vacation home in a mountain setting with a great community several years before purchasing a home at WTG.  We were passing through the area on a random friday and stopped to look around.  We immediately fell in love with the Wintergreen setting and looked at a few houses that same day, but nothing really felt right.  You know how things go – lives get busy and time passes.  As soon as COVID hit we looked again and everything clicked right from the beginning.  That was the start of the adventure.
Since purchasing at Wintergreen we have stepped right into the community, including trail hikes with TNF, exploring Wintergreen on our own, and becoming active in a number of social groups.  We also took a 10 day trip to Italy with Wintergreen residents last fall which was life changing as far as community connection goes.  Additionally, we love Wintergreen so much that we got engaged on the Old Appalachian Trail and got married at the overlook on Devils Knob Loop several years ago.  The overlook was important because it overlooks the same raw mountains that our deck overlooks on Cedar Drive.  The undeveloped mountains are part of our favorite aspect.  We understand pressures of the world, but to be involved in an organization that is connected with preserving the unspoiled environment, while balancing human usage of that natural resource (e.g. trail maintenance), is important to us.
If I had to boil it down to a few words, WTG and TNFW would be: the love of the natural environment, the love of the community, and the concept that Wintergreen is a community in the mountains that just happens to have a resort connected to it.
